Summer 2028 Berlin, Germany
2028 – 8th World Journalism Education Congress
“Journalism education in times of geopolitical change”
The 8th World Journalism Education Congress Heads to Berlin, summer 2028. Journalism educators worldwide feel the impact of the fundamental geopolitical change of our times. Authoritarianism is on the rise and limits the spaces of freedom for journalism – and journalism educators. In a growing number of countries, journalism schools and faculties at universities remain one of the few safe havens left to discuss matters of journalistic independence.
WJEC 2028 will encourage the exchange of empirical studies and best practices to set a manifesto for the academic independence and professionalism of journalism education. Through expert panels, interactive workshops and keynote talks by leading voices in the field, this event will examine :
-How global tensions are reshaping media landscapes
-The role of journalism schools in promoting press freedom and critical thinking
-Ethical challenges in reporting across borders
-Innovations in curricula to meet the demands of an increasingly uncertain world
